Potluck #50: Global Nation

I am going to Alaska!

Using IgoUgo.com, I was able to plan my trip and think of some of the things that I can expect to encounter.

Denali National Park

The first thing on the list of things to do is visit the Denali National Park. According to the National Park Service, http://www.nps.gov/, "Denali’s dynamic glaciated landscape supports a diversity of wildlife with grizzly bears, caribou, wolves, Dall sheep and moose. Summer slopes are graced with birds and wildflowers. Visitors enjoy sightseeing, backpacking, mountaineering, and research opportunities. Whether climbing or admiring, the crowning jewel of North America’s highest peak is the awe inspiring 20,320 foot Mount McKinley."

They even offer a dog-sled demonstration in the park. Of course, if I visit Alaska that is a must of things to do. I also can expect to find a large quantity of wildlife, especially bears. Also included in the area is the Cabin Night Dinner Theater at the Chalets in Aramark Parks and Resorts in Denali National Park.

Mendenhall Glacier and Whale-Watching Tour

The next stop will be the Mendenhall Glacier. According to the user reviews on IgoUgo.com the place is worth visiting. I am a bit of an outdoors person, and this place had a high rating for visitors. Of course I also have to do some whale watching. Why go to Alaska and not take part of something that very few people experience.

King Salmon Fishing Along the Kasilof River

Do I have to say much about it? Only that there are restrictions as to how big of a catch you can get, still, is not like you can catch a big salmon every day of the week. One of the stories even mentions getting lucky on day one and catching a 42 lb. salmon. That is enough fish for a week, if not more! So many things that can be done. So many recipes. So little time.

And any restaurant that is open or that looks interesting enough I will visit and eat something new. There is no way you can experience a new place and truly enjoy the culture until you try their cuisine.
